I want my damn sponge back.

Recently The Bat has gone all Al Gore. We recycle a lot, drive small vehicles and aren't afraid of public transportation. We buy some organic and care where our meat comes from. We don't toss batteries and try not to by too much disposable crap (just ask her, I don't throw anything away). We even have switched to better-for-the-environment dishwasher detergent (hint: Don't get Earth from Randall's. That shit is like putting spackle in with the dishes). We buy wind-made energy. And my main Pokemon is Torterra. Can't get much more green than that.

But she has also banned dish sponges. I didn't think I would care, but I do. I hate using dish rags. They just don't cut it. I constantly feel like my fingers are going to get sliced off when I wash knives. And I can't get a nice soapy lather going, but that might be the new tree-huggy soap. Yes, I know sponges are made from oil and they will last forever, for better or worse, and are probably responsible for terrorism in some way. But I was raised in a sponge household and it's hard to switch.

She has also quoted some statistic about how sponges have 1 zillion million germs but I don't care. They were my friends. And I miss them.

Not Dead Yet

Wow, I haven't posted in ages. I've slowly watched my hits grind down to nothing. Two weeks ago it hit rock bottom at 0. Granted I wasn't exactly drawing in the masses before. Most probably made their way here because of my one time use of the phrase "Japanese school girl." Pervs.

So what's been happening? Stuff. I shan't bore you with the details for details sake. I'm sure they'll come up sooner or later. But mostly (to The Cat The Bat's disappointment) I've been playing Pokemon and struggling through a few electronics projects.

One, the Pokemans, have been fairly successful. It satisfies my geeky impulse to collect. Hell, they tell you outright you got to catch them all. It's like a requirement. The bonus here is that they don't take up space and clutter my already cluttered life. I haven't finished the game yet (110 hours played and counting(!?)) but there is always a Pokemon that I'm on the hunt for. Right now it's Rotom. Geez, look at him, he is a-freaking-adorable. And fairly deadly from what I understand. . . oh sorry, not deadly. No one really dies in Pokemon they just pass out. Which is good since the whole premise sort of comes off as a bit cruel as is.

The other, electronics, has been a painful affair that will probably kill me. But I've decided that I am going to stick with it and try to be able to cobble little gizmos together both for work and personal amusement. And to stop wasting money on Make Magazine. I buy every issue and don't do anything with them; well it's time to start. I'm having some success with minor analog electronics projects, nothing too major. Every time I figure something it's great. I feel like I've invented the wheel and cured cancer all in one stroke. But all I've really done is made a simple light chase with LEDs. Ah well, I'll take my victories where I can get them. I'd like work my way up to using microcontrollers, but we shall see. For now I'd just like to built a simple circuit without inducing chest pains.
